Wong Kar-wai, a Chinese director, screenwriter, and producer, was born in Shanghai in 1958.

At the age of five, he moved with his parents to Hong Kong. He studied graphic design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he developed a passion for photography. After completing his studies, Wong joined the television company TVB, which is known for producing many famous Hong Kong directors, actors, and screenwriters.

Initially, Wong wrote ordinary screenplays until he was given the opportunity to direct his first film, "As Tears Go By" (1988).
