In 2017, Delhi Police booked Rakhi Sawant, Rakesh Sawant, and Raj Khatri, his business partner for an alleged fraud of Rs 6 lakhs.

Reportedly, Shailesh Srivastava, a retired bank employee, was introduced to Rakesh Sawant through Raj Khatri, as Shailesh wanted to start a business with Rakesh Sawant. According to sources, Rakesh assured Shailesh that Rakhi would be a part of the institute after which Rakesh and Raj Khari borrowed Rs 6 lakhs from Shailesh and later, they gave him a post-dated cheque of Rs 7 lakh, which bounced back because of the wrong signatures.
